Principles of Hydrogen Safety – Multilingual

Course Duration: ~ 1 – 2hr

Course Overview

This Principles of Hydrogen Safety course provides an introduction to the fundamental principles and considerations required to work safely with hydrogen.

Developed by Hydrogen Safe in partnership with ARCADIS, this course provides a practical introduction to hydrogen safety, covering hydrogen properties, safe storage, wider safety considerations and best practice.

The course is available in six languages: English, Brazilian Portuguese, Dutch, German, Spanish and French, enabling organisations to provide consistent hydrogen safety training across multilingual teams and international operations.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the fundamental principles of hydrogen safety.
  • Describe the key physical and chemical properties of hydrogen that influence its behaviour and hazards.
  • Identify the key considerations associated with the safe storage of hydrogen.
  • Recognise the wider safety considerations when working with hydrogen systems.
  • Explain the importance of safety controls and best practice when working with hydrogen.
  • Identify common hazards associated with hydrogen and understand how they can be managed.
  • Describe the fundamental principles of hydrogen safety assessment.
  • Recognise the importance of assessing and controlling risk when working with hydrogen.

Course Breakdown

Introduction to Hydrogen
We begin with an introduction to hydrogen and its growing role across the energy and industrial sectors.

This section provides the foundations for understanding hydrogen safety, exploring where hydrogen is used and why its increasing adoption means that a clear understanding of its hazards and characteristics is essential.

Properties of Hydrogen
Understanding hydrogen’s properties is fundamental to understanding its hazards.

We explore the physical and chemical characteristics of hydrogen and consider how these properties influence its behaviour, including factors that are particularly important when working with or around hydrogen.

Safe Storage
Hydrogen storage presents a number of specific safety considerations.

This section introduces the principles of safe hydrogen storage, exploring the factors that need to be considered when storing hydrogen and how appropriate controls can help manage the associated hazards.

Other Safety Considerations
Hydrogen safety extends beyond storage and handling.

We explore additional considerations that can influence the safe design and operation of hydrogen systems, helping delegates recognise the range of factors that need to be considered when working with hydrogen.

Safety Best Practice
We bring together the principles covered throughout the course to consider good practice when working with hydrogen.

This section focuses on the importance of appropriate controls, procedures and safe working practices in reducing risk and supporting the safe use of hydrogen systems.
